Executive Summary

Azimuth Associates’ founder led a rapid engineering and manufacturing initiative to retrofit 150 U.S. Army M1165 vehicles into mobile command-and-control platforms supporting distributed operations.

The effort was designed to improve the ability of operational units to relocate command posts quickly while maintaining continuity of operations in a large-scale combat environment.

Mission-Critical Integration Mobile Command-and-Control Capability

The Challenge

Traditional command-post configurations can create significant setup, teardown, and relocation demands. The requirement was to develop a vehicle-based capability that increased mobility while integrating the equipment necessary to support command-and-control operations. The program required rapid coordination between engineering, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and operational stakeholders while preparing a solution that could be produced consistently across a fleet of 150 vehicles.

The Approach

The effort was managed from initial engineering design through manufacturing and final testing. The team translated operational requirements into an executable design, coordinated manufacturing activities, incorporated feedback throughout development, and established a repeatable configuration that could be scaled across the full vehicle fleet.

The focus throughout the program was speed without sacrificing configuration control, quality, or operational usability.

The Results

The initiative successfully delivered the engineering, manufacturing, and testing required to retrofit 150 M1165 vehicles into mobile command-and-control platforms.

The program provided the operational organization with a standardized, scalable capability designed to increase command-post mobility while maintaining continuity during relocation.

Lessons Learned

Rapid product development succeeds when engineering, manufacturing, testing, and the end user operate as one integrated team.

Early operational feedback and disciplined configuration control allowed the program to move quickly while still producing a repeatable solution at scale.

Conclusion

This program demonstrates the ability to take a mission-driven requirement from concept through engineering, manufacturing, testing, and scaled deployment.

It reflects Azimuth Associates’ approach to rapid technical execution: translate the requirement, build the solution, test it in the real operating environment, and create a repeatable process for scale.
